Well, let’s see what can I tell you… I like to think of myself as relatively balanced.
I’m a sports fan but I couldn’t tell you what place my team is in the standings. I’m an animal lover but I occasionally go hunting and fishing. I try to keep myself in shape with exercise and intake moderation but I’ll drink a beer or two and feast on TexMex food. Lovin’ me some Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains and Tool but also like George Strait, Kenny Chesney and Willie Nelson.
I don’t get too riled up on any cause de jur but get pissed when I hear of the underdog getting beat up by the bully.
I believe in shades of gray. I try to stay away from making blanket statements but sometimes they pop out.
Proud to say I’m a native Texan but hate living in my hometown.

Hey Juls! This here is Juls, also {smirk}. Also a native Texan…left 26 years ago and only return to rural north central Tx for brief visits. Heard a good Texas anecdote while in Salt Lake attending GA. “It’s easier to come out Gay in Texas, than UU”. yup, I’d believe it.

So, Jules, I’m in your lovely hometown of Katy, with which I have a love/hate relationship. The worst part for us here is that we are tightly wrapped by this bible belt and have no allegiance to one religion, which in itself is apparently blasphemous. My daughter was ostracized and apparently lost a friend over her lack of Sunday morning attendance at a special building other than Kroger. I was thinking I ought to find some place to attend that would permit our open and more accepting values while still giving her a religion to claim as her own, maybe a place that would educate her in the variety of spiritual offerings out there. I thought UU might do it. Am I wrong? Input would be greatly appreciated.

I’d be glad to give you some info about UUism and a couple of congregations that might work for you but I kinda need to know a little more about what you’re looking for. Each congregation has it’s own personality and although each is a UU congregation, one might be a better fit over the other.

I used to live in Katy too. Small world!! I am really sorry that we never met–and formed our own UU congregation. Why did we have commute into Houston?
I had tried to attend ‘bible camp’ just because all of my classmates were made by their parents when we were growing up–but I either fell asleep or was scared out of my gourd. My parents personally would have loved the UU church I eventually found on my own. Very nice and very inclusive.
60 years later I find this. What a feeling of peace to find like minded people. Thank you for your site. I sent the address to my daughter.
